SeeSusanSew: I've been sewing and working with my hands for as long as I can remember. I remember making a tiny yo-yo quilt for a doll cradle I owned, tiny schoolbooks for my Madame Alexander dolls, and potholders. Then I began sewing my clothing beginning with a wrap around skirt. My sewing skills advanced when I worked at Simplicity Pattern Company. Later, I worked for an Italian silk mill that produced fabrics for the men's neckwear market and women's clothing market. The fabrics were mouth-watering. Any sample that was ever going to be discarded ended up in my possession. Owning all this fabric got me thinking about how I could use it all. That lead to dollmaking, crazy quilting, fabric assemblage and a never ending passion for working with fabric. Along the way, I became familiar with polymer clay and also work in that medium. I recently began knitting again. On my first trip to Europe at the age of 18, I bought a Pucci scarf in Paris that I knitted an entire outfit for when I came home. I was bound to work with my hands. Both side of my family did so- Barbers, upholsterers, seamstresses, lace workers. To this day, I am surrounded by fabric in my studio space. I can't resist!
